Nancy P. Carter

Nancy Pauline Carter, age 89, passed away peacefully on the night of October 23, 2024, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas, after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Nancy loved her family, loved her pets, and loved her faith. She always had a friendly smile, a warm and loving nature, and a kind greeting for everyone she met.

Nancy was born in DeWitt, Arkansas, on March 23,1935, to Robert Lee and Alma Elizabeth (Bobbitt) Henderson. The fourth of six siblings, Nancy moved to Jonesboro as a girl and lived there most of her life.

Besides taking care of her family and animals, Nancy loved planting flowers and taking long walks around her neighborhood. She enjoyed sitting on her deck at Lake Norfork and watching hummingbirds and deer with her loved ones.

She had many interesting occupations in her lifetime including dental assistant, department store clerk, and pharmacist assistant. She later worked for the Pepsi Cola Company, and from there she went on to manage the Vending and Concessions Department for Arkansas State University where she retired after 30 years of service. Nancy then went to run her own consignment store for a number of years before eventually retiring. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

Nancy is survived by her sons Johnny (Cynthia) Carter of Jonesboro and Terry Carter of Jonesboro; grandsons John (Daisy) Carter and Marc Ross Carter of Jonesboro; and one sister, Pearl Linde, of York, Nebraska.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grady Carter; brothers, Louis and Earl Henderson; and sisters, Viola Harrison and Tressie Nelson.

Visitation will be held in the chapel of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 12:00 -1:00 P.M. Services will follow with Reverend Don Martin at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers are John Carter, Marc Carter, Bill Gramling, Bryant Baker, Tony Spinner, and Randy Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers are Philip Jackson, Jeff Ryan, Larry Rothgery, Andy Fulkerson, Mike Tuseth, Mike Cobb, and Jim Gramling.
