At home and surrounded by loved ones, Edward "Ed" Vaughn, 92, of Jonesboro, passed away on January 21, 2024.
He was born to the late William Reuben and Cara Iva Vaughn on July 22, 1931, in Flint, Michigan. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Harmon.
Ed proudly served the citizens of the United States from 1952-1955. During his time in the United States Air Force, he was a pitcher for one of the USAF baseball teams. This took him all over the world getting to play a game he loved while simultaneously serving his country.
He retired from General Motors after 33 years. He then became a residential builder from 1986-2000. Anyone who worked with Ed spoke of his admirable integrity and commendable work ethic.
In 1998, he was a founding member of Community Fellowship Church. There, he dutifully served wherever the Lord led him. However, his ministry went far beyond the church. He was a picture of Christ anywhere he went.
Because of this, Ed was loved by everyone who encountered him. One of his favorite ways to spend time with those he loved was to share his appreciation for the outdoors. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, gardening and landscaping, and watching birds. He often reflected on what a magnificent creator God is by taking time to admire, and find rest, in the Lord’s handiwork.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Wanda Vaughn, of Jonesboro.
He is also survived by his only daughter, Lou Anne Bremer, of Lansing, Michigan, sons Michael Boyd of Knoxville, Tennessee and Marty Boyd (Tonya) of Jonesboro, granddaughter Neely Boyd of Jonesboro, bonus son Matt Casciano (Jeanine) of Springfield, Missouri, sister in laws Mary Ann Johnson (Charles) of Jonesboro and Patricia Richardson (James) of Tupelo, Mississippi, a host of nieces and nephews, and wonderful caregiver Rose Brown of Harrisburg.
His many friends and family are invited to a visitation from 1:00pm on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Dave Burgess and Chad Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers are Fred Pearson, Bill Oglesby, Larry Garner, Leroy Wilkes, Murray Hightower, Bob Hansen, Charley Appleby, Danny Mounce, Nico Mata, and Allen Cockrill.
The family wishes to express profound gratitude to Dr. Corey Diamond and each member of the Elite Home Hospice staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Community Fellowship Church at 1600 Red Wolf Blvd, Jonesboro, Arkansas, 72401.
Ed will be deeply missed, but his family finds great comfort knowing that he is now walking with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
