Billy Franklin Hampton

Billy Franklin Hampton, 79, of Bay passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 19, 1944, in Marmaduke, Arkansas, to the late Ezekiel and Flora Hampton. Billy spent his childhood in east St. Louis before moving to Jonesboro and eventually settling in Bay where he lived for the past 47 years.

Billy was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Bay where he found solace and community throughout his life. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam Army veteran and was honored with a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

One of Billy's greatest joys in life was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He cherished every moment with them and found immense happiness in their presence. Billy also had a passion for classic vehicles and enjoyed spending his leisure time watching TV.

Billy is preceded in death by his beloved parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Wanda Hampton; his son, Jon (Laura) Hampton of Bay; his daughter, Katie (Casey) Fortson of Jonesboro; his brothers, Ray Hampton of Bay; his sister, Wava (Ed) Woods of Ethel, MS; and his two grandchildren, Garrett Wayne Hampton of Bay and Olivia Fortson of Jonesboro.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at the First Baptist Church in Bay followed by a funeral service at 11 am officiated by Brother Danny Taylor and Ken Brown. Burial will take place at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The active pallbearers will be Horace Scott, Lannie Scott, Louis Scott, Sonny Lunsford, Bill Newton, Jimmy Rodgers, Mike Thomas, and Carbert Rodgers.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the First Baptist Church in Bay in memory of Billy Hampton.
